Mental Health: Let's Talk About It More

Hey everyone! Welcome back to another blog. Today I'm going to talk about a really important topic that needs way more awareness than it gets. I think we all are aware of who Simone Biles is. For those who don't know, she is one of the most successful gymnasts in the entire world. So during the recent Olympics, she had to opt-out of the Group Finals in her sport due to mental health problems. She was fearful that she'd cost her team a medal, and so she backed out like she should have because she wasn't in the right mind to perform, she just had too much pressure on her back. Honestly, she got more hate than she got support. Many people just said that she was a 'weak' person for backing out. The thing is, that mental health is as important as physical health. I know we say that this issue has been getting more and more attention, but hearing about this incident, I'm honestly back to square one with my perspective on things changing. I think the importance of

Is Overthinking Okay?

Alright!!! Here we are with a cool topic. Overthinking. So basically as you all might already be knowing, overthinking is an ART πŸ˜‚.

Okay on a serious note, overthinking is just excessive thinking. It's like, suppose something happened to you. Let's say, you fought with someone (maybe your closest friend or someone in your family) or maybe you got fewer marks on a test. Now, it's late-night, and you just lie there, in your bed, thinking. You reread your texts that were involved in the fight and figure out where you went wrong. You start rereading your answer sheet like a thousand times and figure out your mistakes. Your brain just thinks about a single scenario. I guess you all can agree, that we can call this pure overthinking.

I'm pretty sure you all might have done some overthinking at some point in your life. And that's okay. I mean, you must have overthought at some point in time in your life. When you look over a problem and give a good thought to it, you can figure out what went wrong and be prepared for the future. Okay so let's take an example. Suppose, you had a fight with your best friend. Now, maybe you start overthinking and thinking in every way possible. You basically look onto the bigger picture. This makes you prepared for anyyyyyyy further response that your bestie will give. So, in the end, it won't come as a slap in your face. I guess we can say overthinking is good. It's cool, right? You get to plan out everything. Then why worry?

Oh dear, every single thing has pros and cons. A freaking thing doesn't exist that doesn't have either pros or cons. So we discussed the pros of overthinking. But here comes the bad part. What are the cons of overthinking? Unfortunately, overthinking's cons are quite worse. So even though deep thinking lets you analyze quite a lot, it can also harm you mentally.

Well, when you think about a failure/fight too much, you start putting yourself down. You start assuming that you're the one at fault, every single time. This puts toooo much stress on your mind. I mean, no. And you are damn sure it's not you who are always at fault. But still, you put yourself down. Why? Human tendency. If you just keep thinking about one thing, obviously it'll start eating you up. You'll feel negative. Everything will feel negative. Literally everything.

I mean it's very normal for people to worry about stuff in their lives. Be it your health, relationships with your mom, dad, best friend, etc, and so on. You know, there's a very thin line between worrying and overthinking. The moment we cross that line, it gets super messed up.

Now, how are we supposed to clean up this mess? Oh boy. Alright, so there's one more thing. The moment you start overthinking, it's like it never stops. So again, between safe overthinking and harmful overthinking, exists a veryyyy thin line. You don't even realize that you've crossed this line until all that negativity pops up. Don't create problems in your mind that don't even exist!! In overthinking we tend to do that. We think about problems that MAY occur and we exhaust our brain. Please don't do that. It's not good for your mind.

So, what are we supposed to do now? Because we can clearly see that overthinking can harm you. Now, you abruptly can't just stop it. I mean you can't just stop it. It's good to analyze stuff. But, you need to cut down on the negative part. Now I know that it might seem hard, given the fact we don't really realize when we go into that self demotivating phase. Here are a few tips, I guess they can help.

1) First of all. Take a deep breath. Sit in silence for 2 minutes, and find yourself. I mean, find your spirit. Find something to distract yourself. Maybe play with your siblings or something, talk to your friends, dance (if that helps maybe), watch movies, listen to your favorite singer sing, look at memes!! Basically, find something to distract yourself.

2) Talk to someone. Tell them how you feel, and what you are going through. Pain lessens when you share it (I'm sure I didn't frame the quote properly but anyway!). When you talk to someone, it makes you realize that yes, there is someone for you. Talk to your mom, who is always your support system. Talk to your best friend and have a good laugh (Well if you fought with your best friend talk to some other friend). You can even talk to me, I'm always ready to listen and I probably will have many relatable experiences πŸ˜‚

3) Do something good for someone else. Happiness is contagious. Try to help someone and you'll feel happy as well. Trust me, this happens. It's really cool as well because you get two benefits- you lighten someone else's mood and in return, you feel happy. If you do good, it always comes back to you. You know, karma can be good sometimes lol.

4) Look upon your successes. Well, this is a really good one. When we do the negative overthinking, as I told you earlier, we put ourselves down. At that time, you can try acknowledging your successes. This makes you feel that you are worthy and you can achieve things as long as you have the will and courage.

You know, I agree we cannot figure out when we cross the thin line between worrying and absolute negative overthinking, but still, you get indications. You get really irritated and you're like- ughhhh my goodness!!! At that point in time, follow all the above steps, and I hope that it will help you.

Oof it's already been a long one, so I'd now like to conclude. So basically what I wanted to establish through this is that overthinking is okay, it's not bad until you do it to the right amount. And I agree that it is not controllable but that's the power that you need to find within yourself. Enjoy yourself and chill, and analyze the situation, which helps you improve. Don't create problems that don't even exist. Do good overthinking, and push yourself away from the bad one.

Stop negative overthinking. If something's in your hand, fix it. If not, just let it be.

Be yourself and chill! Byeeeeee!
