Mental Health: Let's Talk About It More

Hey everyone! Welcome back to another blog. Today I'm going to talk about a really important topic that needs way more awareness than it gets. I think we all are aware of who Simone Biles is. For those who don't know, she is one of the most successful gymnasts in the entire world. So during the recent Olympics, she had to opt-out of the Group Finals in her sport due to mental health problems. She was fearful that she'd cost her team a medal, and so she backed out like she should have because she wasn't in the right mind to perform, she just had too much pressure on her back. Honestly, she got more hate than she got support. Many people just said that she was a 'weak' person for backing out. The thing is, that mental health is as important as physical health. I know we say that this issue has been getting more and more attention, but hearing about this incident, I'm honestly back to square one with my perspective on things changing. I think the importance of

A Dream Come True ✨

Considering the fact that I have a blog page, and I post quite often, you would have probably realized by now how much I love writing. If you read my previous blog, you'd understand for sure. (If you haven't read it go and read and lemme know how it was!πŸ˜‚) So yeah coming back to my point. So, yeah I love writing. But this interest and this passion was kinda unknown. When I was in the US, in 4th and 5th grade, we used to get a lot of assignments upon writing stuff. Stories, essays, and stuff. That's when my homeroom teacher felt I was good at this. He even sent me to a Writer's Conference, where an ACTUAL AUTHOR came and talked to us. She was on the 'NEW YORK'S BESTSELLING AUTHOR'S LIST' that time. I'm not sure about that now though. I mean, I don't know.

So, I started to write often. In my free time, I'd just take a pen and paper and start writing whatever came to my mind. At the start, I felt it was kinda trash. But as I wrote further, it came out quite good. And, I have had my bad days as well. Somedays, the things I wrote wouldn't come out too well. I'd get quite upset upon that, but the next day, I'd try to write something better.

Now, this year, an opportunity arrived. You must be knowing about Scholastic Publishers right? Yeah yeah, the ones that publish your favorite childhood books- Geronimo Stilton and Thea Stilton. So yeah, they came up with this opportunity. WRITE NOW. It's a guiding and mentoring programme for young aspiring writers. If you cleared both the test levels, they would invite you to write A FREAKING SHORT STORY, that would be combined with other short stories of children from around the country. And, it would be published by SCHOLASTIC!! And, you would be known as a PUBLISHED AUTHOR!

So, I filled out the form, I gave test level 1, with no hopes whatsoever. Because like, there were so many people, so many GREAT aspiring writers and I felt I wouldn't stand a chance before them. So, they gave me a topic, I wrote 90 words, which was the desired word limit, and just shut my laptop. After a week, I got an email. My phone's screen flashed: "Write Now". At first, I was like, "That's cool, look they've started with their promotions lol". As I opened the email, I couldn't believe what was in front of my eyes.

"Dear Pranjali Gupta, congratulations on clearing Test Level 1. We now invite you to write Test Level 2". Oh my god, I still remember how loud I screamed because I literally had no hope that I could get through this. A few weeks later, came the date for Test Level 2. Again, no hopes, no expectations. I just wrote the test and shut my laptop. AND YES, after a week, I got the email that I had been longing to see. "Dear Pranjali Gupta, we congratulate you upon clearing both the tests and now we invite you to be a part of the mentoring programme for 8 days, to be a published author." I literally am not gonna go into how I felt and all, because I literally can't express it. πŸ˜‚✨

And then, I went online for an eight-day mentoring programme, learning, reading, sharing, writing, and having the best time of my life with 15 other young, talented minds. I wrote my author's profile, my blogs, my story in just 8 days, and I was very proud of myself for what I have accomplished, along with my friends and family being happy too.

Any day soon now, I'm going to be called to a meeting to review my book with the co-authors, and I cannot be more excited. I just love how this opportunity turned out for me and gave me so much happiness, learning, and a proud feeling. I can proudly say now, that I, am a published author (will soon be).

I just want to show by this, that if you pursue your dreams and work hard, you can get where you want to be. And I, am so happy, that I got such an opportunity at such a young age.

Forever Grateful✨
